Showing Events in WordPress

Mar 24th, 2006 by Tim 4

You want to have an easy way of managing calander events on your Wordpress site? There are a number of plugins that help you achive this:

The Contenders:

  • RSS Event - Adds an additional timstamp element to a post and then simply lists upcoming events in the sidebar. It is quite simple and dosn't have a calender view - just a list.
  • Event Calendar 3 - This works in a similar way, but rather than adding a new timestamp, it uses the post timestamp. It also a much prettier since it shows a calender in the side bar.
  • Calendar 2.0 - Differs from the other two in that it doesn't use posts to create events. You manage events from the options panel for the plugin. Though this is very limited - an event has just a title, not more. It does show up in the sidebar as a calender, but using a post seems a better solution to me

My current chioce:

Event Calender 3 - it looks the prettiest and just uses the existing post timestamp. RSS Event may have benefits in adding a specific event timestamp and if it showed up as a calender rather than a list then perhaps it would get my vote.

UPDATE: Actually RSS Event won in the end. What is the point of having a calender view? - None what so ever!

    Hi Tim,

I was using RS event on my previous installation of Wordpress and since I upgraded it to 2.5.1 it doesn’t seem to work. You have any ideas why? And also I noticed the RS event link no longer works from here, is their site down?
