A fresh WordPress theme for your church blog

A fresh WordPress theme for your church blog

Mar 27th, 2007 by Tim 15

I thought it was time I dusted off a WordPress theme that had been sat on the unfinished projects pile. I had a church application in mind with this theme, but it will probably find uses elsewhere too. I’ve tried to produce something a little fresher and used one of my own images as the starting point for inspiration. This theme tries to get away from the usual churchy images: the idea being, life is a journey - church is a place where we journey together.

The theme supports the following plugins:

Let me know where you are using the theme, especially if you are using it to build a WordPress driven church site. Check out the WordPress Churches page for more inspiration.

I’ve been a fan of the great work you are doing especially taking up church websites up a notch into the next century.

You’ve really thought of what most of us will most often need when we’ve got ‘to put up the church website’ without reinventing the wheel.

Makes getting quality stuff out faster. and more time for God’s work too i guess :)

    Dan,

Great to see one of my themes helping build the kingdom as far away as Johor!

I like the way you have adapted the colors slightly to personalize it. How did you do that? I think the way you have put wp to use also shows how the blog can help build a window into a living church community.

Hey, theme looks nice. I like the colors and layout. The footer doesn’t display quite right at the bottom. I think it is something with the background CSS image in the footer div. And the sidebar text overlaps the right edge of the sidebar. Just thought you would want to know. I was using Firefox to look at it. Theme looks good. Thanks

Thanks Cliff, but what version of Firefox are you running and where is it running, the theme browser? I can’t see the problem in Firefox 2, IE or Opera.

I am running Firefox version 2.0.0.3 on Windows XP. I didn’t see it in IE either. And when I change the footer jpg to 773px (one more than the containers 772px) and it fixes the problem. So it looks like the footer jpg is not displaying correctly for some reason in Firefox for me. Any ideas?

I am running 2.0.0.3 too, but no problem when viewed on my own test blog and at the theme browser. Where is the theme running? Use the contact form if you want to keep location private.

Download latest version. Sidebar text issue now fixed (I think!).

I’m using it on a site about Widgets! I changed the graphics, and tweaked the stylesheet to add whitespace between posts and sidebar widgets, but otherwise haven’t changed it. I want to make the main content area a bit wider so that inline Google ads work better (see a sample on the homepage), but that will have to wait. My sister asked if I would help her church with a site, and I might use this as the basis for it.

    Thanks!

Tim, I love this theme. I just downloaded it and will use it for our personal “missionary blog.” I’m a new WordPress user (and already a true believer), so these might be a silly questions. How do I change the font for the headers so they’re not all caps? Also, I’d like to change the header image (the picture) and the logo beside the blog title. I see that Patrick has done some of the changes I would like to implement. Do you mind sharing a few tips for a WordPress newbie? Thanks!

I love the look of this theme! I have been keeping watch on your blog for themes I can use in a couple church project that I’d like to do. I have done for our family website a wordpress blogsite and wanted to help our church put up a website. This is going to be my first attempt to do a website for somebody else, so.. kind of scary but I will try your theme. I have several of your themes I’d already marked as favorites for church but I haven’t make the plunge yet. Thank you so much for sharing your talent and skills for God’s glory! Blessings to you!

Tim your site is an inspiration. I sent a seperate e-mail, but thought I might try here as well. I have no idea how to code, but would like to integrate the drop down menu’s from your ALPHA into EPSILON. I have read the “suckerfish article” you referred to and was getting ready to give it a whirl. That is unless you have some easy insight in how to make it happen. Thank you for all the hard work!

You just need to put all the relevant javascript in your theme template as per instructions and then the hard bit is the CSS. Start with the CSS from Alpha, but you’ll need to put the menu in a different place to where EPSILON currently has it.

I know ALPHA uses sukerfish but I’m not a big fan of drop down menus. People don’t read your parent pages when you use a drop down!

    Tim,

Thanks for your posts about church websites. They’re really helpful.

I began using Wordpress for ours last spring and now am on design number 2.

I love the ability to add extra features as you learn more. EG I recently added podpress for podcasting our sermons.

I even started a website to manage the growing number of sites that I run. I currently don’t make any money, but I would like to cover my hosting costs. Any ideas?
